ABOUT NEW WAVE DOCUMENTARY
Witness the lasting impact of war and displacement on the Vietnamese diaspora and its transformation through joy, music, and reconciliation. Mile-high hair. Synthesized music. Underground parties. Elizabeth Ai was on a mission to excavate an untold story of rebellious punks in the chaotic world of 80s Vietnamese new wave until she rediscovered a hidden past.
New Wave Documentary begins as an exploration of the rebellion and freedom within this subculture that evolves into a profound narrative of identity, loss, and healing. In Orange County, California, the synth beats and punk/goth aesthetics provided a sanctuary for a generation of youth grappling with the weight of their parents' unspoken traumas.

Chúng Ta Cùng Nhau first screened New Wave Documentary in November 2025, with 200 attendees who came together to experience the meaningful film. We heard from so many of you that you wish you could see the movie again, or bring more family and friends to it, and are excited to bring the film back and present this low-cost screening to mark World Refugee Day.
